Subject: Two Years In | Beginning Our Monthly Newsletter
Dear reader,
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
We’re starting this monthly newsletter as a way to share ongoing updates, reflections, and learnings from Seedling Foundation’s work.
It has been a little over two years since we began, and as we look back, it feels important to pause and acknowledge how far the work has come… in terms of new areas of work as well as a clarity of purpose.
Looking Back, Briefly
Seedling Foundation started in November 2023 with a simple intention: to work meaningfully within the Observation Home system, alongside Children in Conflict with Law. What began as focused, on-ground engagement has gradually evolved into deeper work across multiple levels of the system.
Over time, our work expanded from children to staff, and then to system-level partnerships, each step guided less by plans on paper and more by what we were seeing and learning on the ground.
Recent Additions to Our Work
In the past year, our scope has widened in important ways:
- Post-release rehabilitation with Children in Conflict with Law, through the DeepRoots Center (DRC), extending support beyond institutional care

- Engagement with the Women and Child Development (WCD), Mumbai City, supporting their ongoing initiatives and strengthening planning, and implementation
- System-level collaboration with the Children’s Aid Society (CAS), the umbrella body overseeing multiple children’s homes in Mumbai, including the Dongri Observation Home
These additions reflect a growing belief that sustainable change requires engagement across children, staff, and systems, not in isolation, but together.

A Recent Story
Dongri ke Mastermind – Dongri Ka Apna KBC
Recently we organized a new event called “Dongri ke Mastermind”, a quiz game show, similar to “Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC)” at the Dongri Observation Home, and it had quite a reaction from the children!

Why this newsletter exists
We believe this work is incomplete without society’s awareness and participation. This space is for sharing our work, approach, and learnings, including insights, questions, and challenges, and for building a thoughtful community around this often unseen area of work.
