Goal of the session

The goal of this session is to help children understand the basic idea and importance of the Constitution of India in a simple and relatable way, making them aware of their fundamental rights and duties and how these protect their dignity, equality, and freedom. The session aims to build a sense of responsibility, respect for others, and belief in justice, while encouraging them to see themselves as valuable individuals capable of positive change. Ultimately, it seeks to inspire self-worth, discipline, and hope, guiding them to grow into responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to society and nation-building.

 

Content Overview

The session introduces the need for a Constitution, explaining how it ensures the same law applies to everyone, provides direction to the government, and sets limits on its power. It briefly covers the historical backdrop of the Constitution’s making, including key events like World War II, the Cabinet Mission (1946), and the formation of the Constituent Assembly.

Further, the session explains the structure of the Constitution, focusing on its three main branches—Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary—and highlights its flexible yet partly rigid nature.

Special emphasis is given to the core components:

  • Preamble as the “heart and soul” of the Constitution
  • Fundamental Rights that protect individual freedoms
  • Fundamental Duties as responsibilities of citizens
  • Directive Principles as guidelines for good governance
